I found poker in a similar manner to many other serious players: At the low stakes college dorm room games. At first, I didn't know what I was doing, but I had confidence that if I devoted time to reading about poker through books at websites such at 2+2, I'd understand the game well enough to beat the other college kids who were only interested in gambling, and not in understanding the deep strategy of poker. Once I started beating those games I came to the realization that outthinking opponents leads to profit. Since then I worked my way up the stakes in live games and online and through the past couple of years have consistently beat midstakes NL for strong win rates.
I have a strong understanding of theory and how to apply it at the table. I understand how to read hand ranges and opponents' tendencies and to maximally extract profit from them. In the modern online game, playing solid is not enough. You must think critically, play creatively, balance hand ranges, and constantly seek to improve your game. These are areas I work hard on every day and am ready to impart those skills to students.
In addition, I understand how to learn the game. I understand how to make the most out of a coaching session. Just as I am quickly able to recognize opponents' flaws, I will be able to recognize leaks in your game and how to fix them. Most importantly, I will be able to teach you how to think about poker, so that even when I am not coaching you will be able to rapidly improve your game. |
